WORK EXPERIENCE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

➢   Current Position (January 2021 – To date): Africa Zone Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Coordinator in The Salvation Army. The main role includes mobilising and enhancing the International Strategy against trafficking in all 24countries in Africa that Salvation Army is operating in, so that they are engaged, encouraged and equipped to better respond to trafficking and international repatriation.

➢   August 2017-December 2020: Project manager for an anti-human trafficking project of The Salvation Army-Kenya East Territory

• Coordinating the Anti-Human Trafficking project spread out in Nairobi, Makueni, Kiambu, Kilifi, Kwale, Samburu, Isiolo and Mombasa counties that are considered hotspots of human trafficking and modern slavery in Kenya. The project aims to reduce human trafficking and sexual exploitation under the themes of Prevention, Research, Advocacy and Coordination and Collaboration.
• Negotiated a working partnership for The Salvation Army Kenya East Territory with several multinational agencies such as the UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs and crime) in Kenya for coordination of AHT stakeholders. Hosted joint stakeholder forums in 2015 and in 2017 in collaboration with the UNODC as a result of this partnership.
• Member of the International Anti-Human Trafficking Taskforce for The Salvation Army International representing Africa Zone in developing a global strategy to combat human trafficking from 2016 – 2019
• External facilitator at the Global uke forums in Norway Modern Slavery Week in November 2019 for the Norwegian Council of Churches members in 12 forums organized across Norway by the Council in conjunction with Salvation Army Norway.
• Member of the founding steering committee for Stop The Traffik Kenya – a network of anti-human trafficking actors in Kenya launched in 2016 (www. Stopthetrafik.or.ke)
• Facilitated the session for Communities of Practice for Anti-Human Trafficking at The Africa Zone Annual Community Development and Capacity Building Conference in Ghana in October 2019
• Appointed the National Contact Person for Anti-Human Trafficking and modern slavery for Kenya East Territory-Africa Zone in April 2020
• Appointed Board Member in Love Justice Kenya Organization in 2019

➢   March 2014-December 2017: Monitoring and Evaluations Coordinator – Water Sanitation and Hygiene Project of The Salvation Army-Kenya

• Devising a system of continuous monitoring and evaluating the long term impact of the WASH (Water Sanitation and Hygiene) project by The Salvation Army-Kenya as well as training staff on tools for data collection, undertaking data analysis and providing information from generated data
• Negotiated with the government for collaborations leading to a working agreement memorandum of understanding with the Project.

➢   August 2013 – March 2014: Database migration coordination & project coordinator adolescent study of KEMRI/WELLCOME Trust Research Programme

• Database migration coordination for Epidemiology and Demography Department studies from FileMaker platform to MySQL database platform.
• Providing project coordination for a stakeholder’s workshop for stakeholders running adolescent programs in Coast region.

➢   Data Manager/Analyst

• October 2008-December 2011 – KEMRI/WELLCOME Trust Research Programme-Kilifi, Kenya Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine Impact Study
• Oversee design, development and continuous review of the Pneumococcal Conjugate vaccine monitoring electronic data capture system.
• Launch and successful rollout of an electronic data capture system, which carries out daily immunization monitoring activities for routine immunizations in 32 health surveillance centres in Kilifi district HDSS (Health Demographic Surveillance System).
• Coordination of data collection and standardization of data collection tools across all 32 sites of the project
• Training on quarterly basis/as need be and supervision of 38 data clerks and the data
• supervisors in data management related issues.
• Data management tasks and support using the following softwares STATA, Microsoft Excel, File Maker, My SQL software
• Generating routine monitoring and adhoc reports as required and preparing detailed documentation and standard operating procedures of all project procedures used in the PCVIS project for ease in reference and review.
• Assist the project manager in implementation, management, coordination and running of the PCVIS project and other related projects in the department.

➢   Data Analyst

August 2007 to October 2008 – KEMRI/CDC Kisumu, Kenya HIV-Research

• Data management tasks and support using SPSS, SAS, MS ACCESS, MS EXCEL and providing support required in writing of scientific papers. Design of data collection tools using TeleForm® technology
• Prepared  detailed  data  dictionaries  and  documentation  of  all  interim  and  final cleaned data sets including variable names, response formats, value labels, and frequencies so that data are easily accessible for analysis and review.

➢   Assistant Data Manager

August 2005 – July 2007 – Research Care and Training Programme – KEMRI, Nairobi

• Database creation, data collection, data capture, data cleaning and analysis using SPSS, and other Microsoft software as well as provided the data management and analysis support required in writing of scientific papers.
• Designed data collection tools, data entry and data cleaning using TeleForm® technology and developing standard operating procedures (SOP) used within the study
• Prepared  detailed  data  dictionaries  and  documentation  of  all  interim  and  final cleaned  data  sets  including  variable  names,  response  formats,  value  labels,  and frequencies so that data are easily accessible for analysis and review.
• Assisted in instructing project staff in the use of standard business and administrative software,  such  as  Microsoft  office  tools; provide  help  or  written  documentation where required.
• Generated weekly reports as well as data archiving while ensuring confidentiality and privacy of the information.
